10-2013 AICTE — have you read this ?

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

Rabindra Nath Tagore

9-2013 Forcing shit down your throat

Forcing shit down your throats

AICTE, the mastermind behind several scandals in higher education, is once again at its dirty game. In a scandalous and blatant display of favouritism to a particular vendor, AICTE orders all engineering institutions to switch over to Microsoft products (vide http://www.aicte-india.org/downloads/AICTE_notice.pdf). And, we call ourselves a free and democratic country !!

THE HINDU, a highly respected newspaper of India, takes up this disugusting display of short-sighted favouritism. (http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/engineering-students-locked-into-microsoft-office-use/article4641746.ece). It is time for all the society, especially the academic community of India, to raise up and revolt against this misuse of authority by AICTE. Sadly, THE HINDU misses the main point of argument against this decision of AICTE. It is not just the wastage of scarce monetary resources, that we should avoid, it is also time to lament the loss of opportunity for exploring and learning, which propreitary, closed-source products deny to students. Locking-in whole generations of students would mean the very antidote for unfettered education and learning. It is not very difficult to guess or guage the real motivating force behind this decsision, considering the record of Microsoft and AICTE

8 – 2013 All Managers’ Day (aka all Fools’ Day)

The 1st day of April, popularly known as All Fools Day, will henceforth be called All Managers’ Day. This is a tribute to the breed of mentally challenged animals who think Management means sinking the ship they are supposed to steer. Here is a true story. Let their achievements be recognised the world over.
